Egypt’s Islamic Revolution: Christian-Muslim clashes in Egypt kill 11

Christians Killed In Church Attack

CAIRO – Security and hospital officials say Muslim-Christian clashes in the Egyptian capital Cairo killed 11 people and wounded more than 90.

The clashes broke out Tuesday night when a Muslim mob attacked thousands of Christians protesting against the burning of a Cairo church last week. Muslims torched the church in a Cairo suburb amid an escalation of tensions between the two religious groups over a love affair between a Muslim and a Christian that set off a violent feud between families of the couple.

The officials said Wednesday that the killed were six Christians and five Muslims.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

 hospital officials said Wednesday.

They said the clashes took place late Tuesday night and lasted several hours. The fighting involved the use of guns, clubs and knifes, they added. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The clashes began when several thousand Christians protested against the burning last week of a church in a Cairo suburb by a Muslim mob following a deadly clash between Muslims and Christians over a love affair between a Muslim and a Christian.

The Christian protesters on Tuesday blocked a vital highway, burning tires and pelting cars with rocks.

An angry crowd of Muslims set upon the Christians and the two sides fought pitched battles for about four hours. The six killed were believed to be mostly Christians who died of gunshot wounds.

Tuesday’s clashes are the latest evidence of the security vacuum in Egypt that followed the ouster on Feb. 11 of President Hosni Mubarak at the end of 18 days of anti-government protests. The police have pulled out from Cairo and several other cities three days into the uprising and are yet to fully take back the streets, a fact that has unleashed a wave of violent crime and even lawlessness in some parts of the nation.

Mubarak handed power to the military when he stepped down but it does not have enough troops to police every street in Cairo, a sprawling city of some 18 million people that, at the best of times, looks like it is about to descend into chaos.

Egyptian Armed Forces Fire at Christian Monasteries, 19 Injured

St. Bishoy Monastery

Egyptian Armed Forces Fire at Christian Monasteries, 19 Injured

For the second time in as many days, Egyptian armed force stormed the 5th century old St. Bishoy monastery in Wadi el-Natroun, 110 kilometers (66 miles) from Cairo. Live ammunition was fired, wounding two monks and six Coptic monastery workers. Several sources confirmed the army’s use of RPG ammunition. Four people have been arrested including three monks and a Coptic lawyer who was at the monastery investigating yesterday’s army attack.Monk Aksios Ava Bishoy reported the armed forces stormed the main entrance gate to the monastery in the morning using five tanks, armored vehicles and a bulldozer to demolish the fence built by the monastery last month to protect themselves and the monastery from the lawlessness which prevailed in Egypt during the January 25 Uprising.(Five Tanks vs, Three Monks …. The Army should have called in reinforcements) “When we tried to address them, the army fired live bullets, wounding Father Feltaows in the leg and Father Barnabas in the abdomen,” said Monk Ava Bishoy. “Six Coptic workers in the monastery were also injured, some with serious injuries to the chest.”Father Hemanot Ava Bishoy said the army fired live ammunition and RPGs continuously for 30 minutes, which hit part of the ancient fence inside the monastery. “The army was shocked to see the monks standing there praying ‘Lord have mercy’ without running away. This is what really upset them,” he said. “As the soldiers were demolishing the gate and the fence they were chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ and ‘Victory, Victory’.”He also added that the army prevented the monastery’s car from taking the injured to hospital.

Monastery of St. Makarios of Alexandria

The army also attacked the Monastery of St. Makarios of Alexandria in Wady el-Rayan, Fayoum, 100 km (60 miles) from Cairo. It stormed the monastery and fired live ammunition on the monks. Father Mina said that one monk was shot and more than ten have injuries caused by being beaten with batons. The army demolished the newly erected fence and one room from the actual monastery and confiscated building materials. The monastery had also built a fence to protect itself after January 25 and after being attacked by armed Arabs and robbers leading to the injury of six monks, including one monk in critical condition who is still hospitalized.

The army had given on February 21 an ultimatum to this monastery that if the

fence was not demolished within 48 hours by the monks, the army would remove it themselves. The Egyptian Armed Forces issued a statement on their Facebook page denying that any attack took place on St. Bishoy Monastery.(WELL THAT SETTLES IT!  IF YOU READ IT ON FACE BOOK IT MUST BE TRUE!)Father Hedra Ava Bishoy said they are in possession of whole carton of empty bullet shells besides the people who are presently in hospital to prove otherwise. The army attack came after the monks built a fence for their protection after the police guards left their posts and fled post the January 25th Uprising and after being attacked by prisoners who were at large, having escaped from their prisons during that period.”We contacted state security and they said there was no police available for protection,” said Father Bemwa,” So we called the Egyptian TV dozens of times to appeal for help and then we were put in touch with the military personnel who told us to protect ourselves until they reach us.”Nearly 7000 Copts staged a peaceful rally in front of the Coptic Cathedral in Cairo, after which they marched towards Tahrir Square to protest the armed forces attacks on Coptic monasteries….

Nearly 4000 Muslims Attack Christian Homes in Egypt, Torch Church

Nearly 4000 Muslims Attack Christian Homes in Egypt, Torch Church

Assyrian International News Agency  03/05/2011

(McAuley’s World Additions in blue)

(AINA) — A mob of nearly four thousand Muslims has attacked Coptic homes this evening in the village of Soul, Atfif in Helwan Governorate, 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Cairo, and torched the Church of St. Mina and St. George. There are conflicting reports about the whereabouts of the Church pastor Father Yosha and three deacons who were at church; some say they died in the fire and some say they are being held captive by the Muslims inside the church.

Witnesses report the mob prevented the fire brigade from entering the village. The army, which has been stationed for the last two days in the village of Bromil, 7 kilometers from Soul, initially refused to go into Soul, according to the officer in charge. When the army finally sent three tanks to the village, Muslim elders sent them away, saying that

Arson of the Church of St. Mina and St. George, Soul, Atfif, Egypt

 everything was “in order now.”

A curfew has been imposed on the 12,000 Christians in the village.

This incident was triggered by a relationship between 40-year-old Copt Ashraf Iskander and a Muslim woman. Yesterday a “reconciliation” meeting was arranged between the relevant Coptic and Muslim families and together with the Muslim elders it was decided that Ashraf Iskander would have to leave the village because Muslims torched his house.

The father of the Muslim woman was killed by his cousin because he did not kill his daughter to preserve the family’s honor, which led the woman’s brother (the son of the murdered father) to avenge the death of his father by killing the cousin (his father’s murderer). The village Muslims blamed the Christians (for the murders) . (So the 2 murders that led to this attack took place between family members of the Muslim woman – the 1st an honor killing, the 2nd a revenge killing for the honor killing).

The Muslim mob attacked the church, exploding 5-6 gas cylinders inside the church, pulled down the cross and the domes and burnt everything inside. Activist Ramy Kamel of Katibatibia Coptic advocacy called US-based Coptic Hope Sat TV and sent an SOS on behalf of the Copts in Soul village, as they are presently being attacked by the mob. He also said that no one is able to contact the priest and the deacons inside the burning church and there is no answer from their mobile phones.

Coptic activist Wagih Yacoub reported the mob has broken into Coptic homes and has called on Copts to leave the village. “Terrorized Copts have fled and some hid in homes of Muslim neighbors,” he added.

Witnesses said the mob chanted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) and vowed to conduct their morning prayers on the church plot after razing it. (Thank goodness they were not chanting “democracy Akbar” or “Democracy is great)

Christians Protest Arson of St Minas Church in Cairo

(AINA) — Thousands of Christians have been staging sit-in since March 5 in front of the Egyptian TV building on the Nile Corniche in Cairo, protesting the attack on the church in the village of Soul and the inaction of the Egyptian armed forces in preventing the Muslims from torching and demolishing the church and terrorizing the Christian Copts and forcing them to evacuate the village.

POST SCRIPT

Shouldn’t President Obama speak out and ask the Muslim world to show more COMPASSSION AND TOLERANCE FOR THEIR CHRISTAIN NEIGHBORS … to ask the Muslim World to speak out against violence and protest in favor of the peaceful resolution of all disputes, religious, political and military …. and to open their minds and hearts and acknowledge a universal right to worship or not worship as each individual determines for themselves ….

LETS ASK THOSE PROTESTING REPRESENTATIVE KING’S HEARING IF SUCH A STATEMENT ISN’T IN ORDER …

IF YOU ARE A MUSLIM TODAY AND YOU DON’T WANT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A TERRORIST … CLEAR YOUR THOAT AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST TERRORISM, VIOLENCE AND RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE BY ALL ….

Life Lessons We Seem To Have Forgotten:

1). Mob rule is always bad

2). “Change” achieved through street violence never yeilds what it promises ….

3). A crowd’s size has no meaningful correlation to its “moral authority” …

Conflict in The Middle East – The difference between Islamic Shura and Western Democracy

EGYPT: The citizens of the Middle East are not talking about a “western democracy” in Egypt, Saudi Arabia or anywhere else in the Islamic Middle East … In Saudi Arabia they are “in conflict” over two different types of “shura” or “Islamic consultation”…. The Islamic word “shura” does not translate into the English word “democracy” as the AP and the American Politicians seem to think….

The “King”, “Prime Minister” or “President” or whatever title you want to use in an Islamic State, it doesn’t really matter because the real “bosses” in an Islamic State, like Iran, Saudi Arabia or Egypt in two weeks, are the “Religious Elders” or “Islamic Jurists”, not the people, Royals or the Politicians.

An Islamic State doesn’t consult “with the people” … unless those people are appointed by the “Islamic Jurists”… an Islamic State consults with God, not the people …

In Saudi Arabia the Sunni form of “shura” is the “Ulema” … the Shia protesters in Saudi Arabia want the “consultations” to take place with the Mullahs in Iran …. not the “religious elders” in Saudi Arabia … that is hardly a shift to a democratic form of government…

The Egyptian people see the “Islamic Elders” in Egypt as being less corrupt than Mubarak’s regime, but that doesn’t translate to the “elders” being more “democratic”.

THE REVOLUTION IN EGYPT WAS NOT ABOUT EXPANDING WESTERN DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT – IT WAS ABOUT RETURNING EGYPT TO AN ISLAMIC STATE WITH ISLAMIC CONTROL OF THE GOVERNMENT – ABOUT ENDING SECULARISM IN EGYPT…

A secularism, that according to Islam, is inherently corrupt, because the Government’s decisions were not being authorized by Islam or the Islamic Elders … that the Government was corrupt because it was corrupting Islam…

THE PROTESTERS IN SAUDI ARABIA AND EGYPT ARE NOT PROTESTING AGAINST ISLAM … THEY ARE NOT PROTESTING TO END THE ISLAMIC SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT IN SAUDI ARABIA OR TO LIMIT ISLAMIC GOVERNMENT IN EGYPT.

IN SAUDI ARABIA THE DISPUTE IS OVER WHICH GROUP OF “RELIGIOUS ELDERS” WILL OVERSEE RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE… THE RELIGIOUS ELDERS OF SAUDI ARABIA OR IRAN.

and the American Press and Politicians are jumping up and down shouting about democracy ….. FOOLS …

THE ISLAMIC WORD SHURA DOES NOT TRANSLATE TO THE ENGLISH WORD DEMOCRACY…

SHURA MEANS THAT EVERY GOVERNMENTAL DECISION MUST BE MADE IN A MANNER THAT IS CONSISTENT WITH FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAMIC LAW … SHURA DOES NOT MEAN “IN CONSULTATION WITH THE PEOPLE”…

SHURA MEANS “IN CONSULTATION” WITH THE “RELIGIOUS ELDERS” … THAT BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT ACTS, IT MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE ISLAMIC SCHOLARS OR JURISTS … not the common Egyptian, Saudi or Iranian…

In Egypt the upper house of the Parliament, what is called the Senate in the United States or the House of Lords in Britain, was called the SHURA … but the Egyptian Shura did not consult with the Islamic Elders, it did not seek permission from the “Islamic Elders” it was a “SECULAR GOVERNING BODY” and as such it was an affront to Islam … a corruption.

Egypt Moves Closer To Islamic Rule While Al Qaeda’s #2 Calls for Islamic State in Egypt

Egypt’s new PM vows to meet protesters’ demands

“a referendum on constitutional changes to allow for competitive parliamentary and presidential elections will be held on March 19” …

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/04/ap/middleeast/main20039200.shtml

Wow, two whole weeks to read and debate before the final referendum on the “NEW EGYPTIAN CONSTITUTION”; a constitution written by the Brotherhood’s Islamic Scholars …

I wonder who is going to win this “free & fair referendum” …

It is this referendum, not the Presidential Election to be scheduled in the fall which will determine Egypt’s future … this referendum will install Islamic Rule rather than Secular Government in Egypt …

IRAN REDUX …. Egypt is actually ahead of schedule … Khomeini returned to Iran on the 1st of February 1979. Iran didn’t adopt its new Constitution, the Constitution that created the Islamic Republic of Iran, until June 14 of that year, 4 1/2 months after Khomeini’s return. Egypt’s Islamic Revolution started a little over 1 month ago … the vote on the new Islamic Constitution for Egypt is two weeks away… a little over 6 weeks from start to finish…

Isn’t that FACEBOOK and TWITTER amazing…

and the answer is NO – Iran’s Government does not meet the definition of a “Republic”, no matter what the name implies …

Al-Qaida No. 2 calls for Islamic rule in Egypt

CAIRO – Osama bin Laden’s deputy is urging fellow Egyptians to establish Islamic rule after the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.

In an Internet audio message, Ayman al-Zawahri warns the “honest and free people” of Egypt and Tunisia not to allow America and others steal the fruits of their uprisings by allowing them to install puppet regimes.

It’s Al-Zawahri’s fourth message since the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt. The 28-minute recording was posted on a militant website Friday.

He also urged Yemenis to continue their struggle to topple President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s regime, which he said turned Yemen into an American spy base. Yemen is home to an al-Qaida offshoot.

Before becoming deputy al-Qaida leader, the Egyptian al-Zawahri headed the Al-Jihad extremist group (an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood) that battled Mubarak’s regime.

As Violence Sweeps Middle East Obama Adminstration Flip Flops on Iran’s Role

FROM: “THE DAY LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT” DEPARTMENT:

Iran contacting Arab opposition movements in Egypt: Clinton

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that Iran is directly or indirectly communicating with opposition groups in Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen in a bid to shape events there.

It was the first time that Clinton detailed alleged efforts by Iran to meddle in the three-month wave of Arab revolts that has toppled presidents in Tunisia and Egypt, convulsed Libya and shaken Yemen, Bahrain and Oman.

“They are doing everything they can to influence the outcomes in these places,” Clinton told the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“They are using Hezbollah… to communicate with counterparts… in (the Palestinian movement) Hamas who then in turn communicate with counterparts in Egypt,” the chief US diplomat said.

“We know that they are reaching out to the opposition in Bahrain. We know that the Iranians are very much involved in the opposition movements in Yemen,” she said.

“So either directly or through proxies, they are constantly trying to influence events. They have a very active diplomatic foreign policy outreach,” she added.

Say, Hillary, Barry – Isn’t it a bit late to try and shut this barn door you opened, the horse is long gone ….

AND FROM THE, “OH, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN” Department:

Egypt proposes competitive presidential elections

“Islam Lotfi, a leading youth activist and a member of Egypt’s most organized political movement, the Muslim Brotherhood…. says rewriting the Constitution meets one of the protesters biggest demands  …”

THIS STATEMENT MARKS THE FIRST TIME THE WESTERN PRESS HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE OBVIOUS … STUDENT PROTESTERS IN EGYPT ARE MEMBERS OF THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD…

The article goes on to note:

“”Tahany el-Gibali, the deputy head of Egypt’s Constitutional Court (Chief Justice of Egypt’s Supreme Court), said the amendments (to Egypt’s Constitution) show a “serious shortcoming” in managing the transitional period by rushing toward elections without allowing new political players the time to form. “This denies the new forces on the ground the right to organize and form new parties to run in those elections,” el-Gibali said. “This will make the elections exclusive to the old powers, such as the Muslim Brotherhood…””

“Déjà vu” Carter and Iran … The Fundamentalist takeover of Egypt is a “fait accompli” … we will see how much more of the Middle East will be plunged into darkness…

Question: What is Egypt’s “largest active political party” today? Answer: The Muslim Brotherhood. The “Brotherhood” held 20% of the seats in Egypt’s Parliament (88 seats). The only political party in Egypt to hold more seats in Egypt’s Parliament was Mubarak’s Party and that party has been outlawed and dissolved….
