Nearly 4000 Muslims Attack Christian Homes in Egypt, Torch Church

Assyrian International News Agency 03/05/2011

(McAuley’s World Additions in blue)

(AINA) — A mob of nearly four thousand Muslims has attacked Coptic homes this evening in the village of Soul, Atfif in Helwan Governorate, 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Cairo, and torched the Church of St. Mina and St. George. There are conflicting reports about the whereabouts of the Church pastor Father Yosha and three deacons who were at church; some say they died in the fire and some say they are being held captive by the Muslims inside the church.

Witnesses report the mob prevented the fire brigade from entering the village. The army, which has been stationed for the last two days in the village of Bromil, 7 kilometers from Soul, initially refused to go into Soul, according to the officer in charge. When the army finally sent three tanks to the village, Muslim elders sent them away, saying that

Arson of the Church of St. Mina and St. George, Soul, Atfif, Egypt

everything was “in order now.”

A curfew has been imposed on the 12,000 Christians in the village.

This incident was triggered by a relationship between 40-year-old Copt Ashraf Iskander and a Muslim woman. Yesterday a “reconciliation” meeting was arranged between the relevant Coptic and Muslim families and together with the Muslim elders it was decided that Ashraf Iskander would have to leave the village because Muslims torched his house.

The father of the Muslim woman was killed by his cousin because he did not kill his daughter to preserve the family’s honor, which led the woman’s brother (the son of the murdered father) to avenge the death of his father by killing the cousin (his father’s murderer). The village Muslims blamed the Christians (for the murders) . (So the 2 murders that led to this attack took place between family members of the Muslim woman – the 1st an honor killing, the 2nd a revenge killing for the honor killing).

The Muslim mob attacked the church, exploding 5-6 gas cylinders inside the church, pulled down the cross and the domes and burnt everything inside. Activist Ramy Kamel of Katibatibia Coptic advocacy called US-based Coptic Hope Sat TV and sent an SOS on behalf of the Copts in Soul village, as they are presently being attacked by the mob. He also said that no one is able to contact the priest and the deacons inside the burning church and there is no answer from their mobile phones.

Coptic activist Wagih Yacoub reported the mob has broken into Coptic homes and has called on Copts to leave the village. “Terrorized Copts have fled and some hid in homes of Muslim neighbors,” he added.

Witnesses said the mob chanted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) and vowed to conduct their morning prayers on the church plot after razing it. (Thank goodness they were not chanting “democracy Akbar” or “Democracy is great)

Christians Protest Arson of St Minas Church in Cairo

(AINA) — Thousands of Christians have been staging sit-in since March 5 in front of the Egyptian TV building on the Nile Corniche in Cairo, protesting the attack on the church in the village of Soul and the inaction of the Egyptian armed forces in preventing the Muslims from torching and demolishing the church and terrorizing the Christian Copts and forcing them to evacuate the village.

POST SCRIPT

Shouldn’t President Obama speak out and ask the Muslim world to show more COMPASSSION AND TOLERANCE FOR THEIR CHRISTAIN NEIGHBORS … to ask the Muslim World to speak out against violence and protest in favor of the peaceful resolution of all disputes, religious, political and military …. and to open their minds and hearts and acknowledge a universal right to worship or not worship as each individual determines for themselves ….

LETS ASK THOSE PROTESTING REPRESENTATIVE KING’S HEARING IF SUCH A STATEMENT ISN’T IN ORDER …

IF YOU ARE A MUSLIM TODAY AND YOU DON’T WANT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A TERRORIST … CLEAR YOUR THOAT AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST TERRORISM, VIOLENCE AND RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE BY ALL ….

Life Lessons We Seem To Have Forgotten:

1). Mob rule is always bad

2). “Change” achieved through street violence never yeilds what it promises ….

3). A crowd’s size has no meaningful correlation to its “moral authority” …

Cancun killings linked to cartels: Body of Brigadier General found near Cancun

Cancun killings linked to cartels

The bodies of a retired brigadier general and two other men have been found near the Mexican resort of Cancun after a suspected drug cartel killing

The three, who were found dead in the back of a truck, were part of a protection team for Cancun’s mayor.

Authorities say they think the men were intercepted on a road near Cancun, then taken to a remote forest, tortured, and killed with a shot to the head.

Drug-related violence claimed more than 5,000 lives in Mexico last year.

Brig Gen Mauro Enrique Tello had only just become a security consultant, having retired from the army on 1 January.

The investigation is ongoing, but Cancun’s local prosecutor has already said that the nature of the murders and the

identity of the victims points to a contract killing by a drug cartel, the BBC’s Stephen Gibbs reports from Mexico City.

The Mexican government, which depends on tourism income, will be determined to ensure that this is an isolated case, he says.

Drug-related violence in Mexico is soaring, as criminal gangs fight both each other and federal forces as they battle to control the immensely lucrative routes trafficking cocaine and other drugs from Colombia to the US.

But most of the violence has been to date been concentrated in Mexico’s Northern border cities.

Cancun, which attracts millions of tourists every year, has largely been spared.

President Felipe Calderon has vowed to destroy the cartels that make billions of dollars trafficking cocaine and other drugs to the United States.

Warrior in Drug Fight Soon Becomes a Victim

Mexican General Seized, Slain in Cancun

// <![CDATA[

The funeral of Brig. Gen. Mauro Enrique Tello Quiñones
The general didn’t get much time. After a long, controversial career, Brig. Gen. Mauro Enrique Tello Quiñones retired from active duty last month and moved to this Caribbean playground to work for the Cancun mayor and fight the drug cartels that have penetrated much of Mexican society. He lasted a week.

Tello, 63, along with his bodyguard and a driver, were kidnapped in downtown Cancun last Monday evening, taken to a hidden location, methodically tortured, then driven out to the jungle and shot in the head. Their bodies were found Tuesday in the cab of a pickup truck on the side of a highway leading out of town. An autopsy revealed that both the general’s arms and legs had been broken.

The audacious kidnapping and killing of one of the highest-ranking military officers in Mexico drew immediate expressions of outrage from the top echelons of the Mexican government, which pledged to continue the fight against organized crime that took the lives of more than 5,300 people last year. Military leaders, who are increasingly at the front lines of the war against the cartels, vowed not to let Tello’s death go unsolved or unpunished.

Mexican drug cartel violence threatens Acapulco

Mexican drug cartel violence threatens Acapulco

Acapulco January 8, 2011 - 14 Decapitated Cartel Victims

With violent murders escalating in the port of Acapulco, tourists are staying away, threatening the once-thriving destinationDaniel Reams and his wife Pamela moved from Virginia ten years ago to run a beach-side hotel in Acapulco. They have 22 rooms. But on this weekend, only four are booked. They estimate their business is off by 60 percent, reports CBS News correspondent Terry McCarthy.

“We are making a living, sort of – but it is way down from what we were,” said Daniel.

The problem, they say, is that the deadly drug war has been creeping closer to tourist areas.

“The violence in the news has killed us,” said Daniel. [McAuleys World Comment: Not the violence in the streets?]

The port of Acapulco has become a bloody battleground between rival drug cartels. Just this past weekend nearly 30 men were killed, including 12 taxi drivers shot in their vehicles. Four other men were thrown to their deaths from a

Saturday Feb. 19, 2011. A spate of attacks on taxis in Acapulco has left 12 taxi drivers or passengers dead, police said Sunday Feb. 20, 2011, a slain Taxi driver is found just hours before the start of the Mexican Open tennis tournament.

bridge. And last month, 15 decapitated men were dumped at a shopping center, all in the shadow of lucrative tourist areas.

The decapitated bodies were found on the sidewalk. The drug cartels haven’t directly targeted foreign tourists, but the hotels are just 10 minutes away from here. For many Americans, that’s way too close.

Now tourists see truckloads of police everywhere. Two cruise lines have just canceled their Acapulco stops taking their 5,000 passengers with them. And the city is no longer among the top 100 destinations for Americans.

“You are here! You feel safe? It’s safe!” answered Guerrero Governor Zeferino Toreblanca when asked if it was safe for American tourists in Acapulco.

Acapulco’s governor downplays the violence, saying they expect 9 million visitors this year. But looking around – the town is eerily empty.

“I was walking down the beach this morning and every hotel here is empty on the beach side,” said American tourist Garth Mark. “There was no one.”

Another victim of the Drug Cartels

On the main tourist strip, nightclubs — the staple of spring breakers — are struggling. On one recent Saturday night one club only had about 20 people in it.

“You can see it right over here, it is a hard situation now,” said a nightclub worker, gesturing to an empty line.

As violence creeps ever closer, many fear the tourists will stay further away.

Conflict in The Middle East – The difference between Islamic Shura and Western Democracy

EGYPT: The citizens of the Middle East are not talking about a “western democracy” in Egypt, Saudi Arabia or anywhere else in the Islamic Middle East … In Saudi Arabia they are “in conflict” over two different types of “shura” or “Islamic consultation”…. The Islamic word “shura” does not translate into the English word “democracy” as the AP and the American Politicians seem to think….

The “King”, “Prime Minister” or “President” or whatever title you want to use in an Islamic State, it doesn’t really matter because the real “bosses” in an Islamic State, like Iran, Saudi Arabia or Egypt in two weeks, are the “Religious Elders” or “Islamic Jurists”, not the people, Royals or the Politicians.

An Islamic State doesn’t consult “with the people” … unless those people are appointed by the “Islamic Jurists”… an Islamic State consults with God, not the people …

In Saudi Arabia the Sunni form of “shura” is the “Ulema” … the Shia protesters in Saudi Arabia want the “consultations” to take place with the Mullahs in Iran …. not the “religious elders” in Saudi Arabia … that is hardly a shift to a democratic form of government…

The Egyptian people see the “Islamic Elders” in Egypt as being less corrupt than Mubarak’s regime, but that doesn’t translate to the “elders” being more “democratic”.

THE REVOLUTION IN EGYPT WAS NOT ABOUT EXPANDING WESTERN DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT – IT WAS ABOUT RETURNING EGYPT TO AN ISLAMIC STATE WITH ISLAMIC CONTROL OF THE GOVERNMENT – ABOUT ENDING SECULARISM IN EGYPT…

A secularism, that according to Islam, is inherently corrupt, because the Government’s decisions were not being authorized by Islam or the Islamic Elders … that the Government was corrupt because it was corrupting Islam…

THE PROTESTERS IN SAUDI ARABIA AND EGYPT ARE NOT PROTESTING AGAINST ISLAM … THEY ARE NOT PROTESTING TO END THE ISLAMIC SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT IN SAUDI ARABIA OR TO LIMIT ISLAMIC GOVERNMENT IN EGYPT.

IN SAUDI ARABIA THE DISPUTE IS OVER WHICH GROUP OF “RELIGIOUS ELDERS” WILL OVERSEE RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE… THE RELIGIOUS ELDERS OF SAUDI ARABIA OR IRAN.

and the American Press and Politicians are jumping up and down shouting about democracy ….. FOOLS …

THE ISLAMIC WORD SHURA DOES NOT TRANSLATE TO THE ENGLISH WORD DEMOCRACY…

SHURA MEANS THAT EVERY GOVERNMENTAL DECISION MUST BE MADE IN A MANNER THAT IS CONSISTENT WITH FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAMIC LAW … SHURA DOES NOT MEAN “IN CONSULTATION WITH THE PEOPLE”…

SHURA MEANS “IN CONSULTATION” WITH THE “RELIGIOUS ELDERS” … THAT BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT ACTS, IT MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE ISLAMIC SCHOLARS OR JURISTS … not the common Egyptian, Saudi or Iranian…

In Egypt the upper house of the Parliament, what is called the Senate in the United States or the House of Lords in Britain, was called the SHURA … but the Egyptian Shura did not consult with the Islamic Elders, it did not seek permission from the “Islamic Elders” it was a “SECULAR GOVERNING BODY” and as such it was an affront to Islam … a corruption.

Saudi Arabia: Government, Religion the Mid East Conflict and why the Liberal Western Press has no clue …

The KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA has a Monarch (how surprising – a Kingdom with a King).

Saudi Arabia’s form of Government is an ABSOULTE ISLAMIC MONARCHY – The Country’s Constitution is the Quran….

The Country of Saudi Arabia is ruled by SUNNI SHARIA LAW … not civil law.

THE SAUDI ARABIAN GOVERNMENT IS NOT A SECULAR GOVERNMENT.

There are no elections or political parties in Saudi Arabia…. the King, however, rules in consultation with the members of the Ulema (Islamic religious scholars)…. Similar to what we will have in Egypt in two weeks time …

The Saudi King is known as the “Defender of the Islamic faith” and two of the principle sites of Islam are located within the Country…

Because Saudi Arabia is an Islamic state, “it is … inevitable that the Ulema should play a key role within the Kingdom. They play an influential part in [a number of] fields of government”. These include the judicial system (the Ulema being the interpreters and dispensers of Sharia law), education and scientific research (through control of the education system and the Ministry of Education) …

The Ulema, the religious and clerical leadership, are led by the Al ash-Sheikh, the descendants of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, founder of the dominant Wahhabi form of SUNNI ISLAM in Saudi Arabia. The alliance between the Al-Saud (the royal family) and the Al ash-Sheikh has existed since the First Saudi State and is based on a power-sharing understanding whereby the Al-Saud have political predominance but will support and propagate the Al ash-Sheikh’s Wahhabism while the Al ash-Sheikh have predominance in religious matters but will support the Al-Saud’s rule.

THE PROTESTERS IN SAUDI ARBAIA ARE NOT CALLING FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF A WESTERN SYLTED DEMOCRACY…. THEY ARE CALLING FOR AN EXPANSION OF RIGHTS FOR THE COMPETING SHIA’ BRANCH OF FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAM…

The Shia’ have their own form of Sharia Law, based on their interpretation of Islam…

IRAN IS SPONSORING THE SHIA’ PROTESTERS IN SAUDI ARABIA…

The protests are not about “Civil Rights” or “Politics” or “Democracy” but about two competing forms of Fundamentalist Islam … one SUNNI and one SHIA’

No one, on either side, is proposing a western styled democracy for Saudi Arabia…

ACCORDING TO SAUDI ARBIA’S LAWS AND CONSTITUTION THE SHIA’ PROTESTS ARE, IN FACT, ILLEGAL…

PROTESTS AGAINST THE MONARCHY ALLEGING A VIOLATION OF SUNNI ISLAMIC LAW WOULD BE TOLERATED UNDER SAUDI LAW… But those protests would be organized by the Ulema in Saudi Arabia, not by the Iranians in Tehran …

The Saudi Monarchy would actually have a “duty” to stamp out the Shia’ protests under the Sunni Sharia Law … it would be an imperative in order to protect and defend the Saudi Constitution (based on the Quran and Sunni Sharia Law) and to defend the Sunni faith against an incursion of the Shi’ ite from Iran…

The “strong arm” that rules Saudi Arabia is SUNNI ISLAM and the Ulema; the SWORD they wield in defense of Sunni Islam is the Saudi Monarchy and their Military … the issue in Saudi Arabia is not democracy but who (Sunni or Shia’) gets to wield the sword …

The King of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Royal Family and the Military serve the Ulema and Sunni Islam in Saudi Arabia … very much like the “government” and “military” in Iran serves the Mullahs and Shia’ Islam ….

If you are looking for a clue as to what will happen to the “protesters” on March 11, 2011 in Saudi Arabia, look to Tehran not Cairo … The “Shia clerics” who fostered the “protests” in Cairo have no footing in Saudi Arabia … unless the Ulema grant them one …

THE ULEMA HAVE A SAY IN EVERY FACET OF DAILY LIFE IN SAUDI ARABIA… from the building of highways to how much oil gets produced … even the decision as to whether American Troops are allowed on Saudi soil …

ONCE AGAIN, THINGS ARE NOT AS CLEAR AS THE PRESS WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE…

The “conflict” in Saudi Arabia is a religious one … the Shia’ are trying to wrestle control of RELIGIOUS not SECULAR affairs from the Ulema …

Egypt Moves Closer To Islamic Rule While Al Qaeda’s #2 Calls for Islamic State in Egypt

Egypt’s new PM vows to meet protesters’ demands

“a referendum on constitutional changes to allow for competitive parliamentary and presidential elections will be held on March 19” …

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/03/04/ap/middleeast/main20039200.shtml

Wow, two whole weeks to read and debate before the final referendum on the “NEW EGYPTIAN CONSTITUTION”; a constitution written by the Brotherhood’s Islamic Scholars …

I wonder who is going to win this “free & fair referendum” …

It is this referendum, not the Presidential Election to be scheduled in the fall which will determine Egypt’s future … this referendum will install Islamic Rule rather than Secular Government in Egypt …

IRAN REDUX …. Egypt is actually ahead of schedule … Khomeini returned to Iran on the 1st of February 1979. Iran didn’t adopt its new Constitution, the Constitution that created the Islamic Republic of Iran, until June 14 of that year, 4 1/2 months after Khomeini’s return. Egypt’s Islamic Revolution started a little over 1 month ago … the vote on the new Islamic Constitution for Egypt is two weeks away… a little over 6 weeks from start to finish…

Isn’t that FACEBOOK and TWITTER amazing…

and the answer is NO – Iran’s Government does not meet the definition of a “Republic”, no matter what the name implies …

Al-Qaida No. 2 calls for Islamic rule in Egypt

CAIRO – Osama bin Laden’s deputy is urging fellow Egyptians to establish Islamic rule after the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.

In an Internet audio message, Ayman al-Zawahri warns the “honest and free people” of Egypt and Tunisia not to allow America and others steal the fruits of their uprisings by allowing them to install puppet regimes.

It’s Al-Zawahri’s fourth message since the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt. The 28-minute recording was posted on a militant website Friday.

He also urged Yemenis to continue their struggle to topple President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s regime, which he said turned Yemen into an American spy base. Yemen is home to an al-Qaida offshoot.

Before becoming deputy al-Qaida leader, the Egyptian al-Zawahri headed the Al-Jihad extremist group (an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood) that battled Mubarak’s regime.

As Violence Sweeps Middle East Obama Adminstration Flip Flops on Iran’s Role

FROM: “THE DAY LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT” DEPARTMENT:

Iran contacting Arab opposition movements in Egypt: Clinton

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that Iran is directly or indirectly communicating with opposition groups in Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen in a bid to shape events there.

It was the first time that Clinton detailed alleged efforts by Iran to meddle in the three-month wave of Arab revolts that has toppled presidents in Tunisia and Egypt, convulsed Libya and shaken Yemen, Bahrain and Oman.

“They are doing everything they can to influence the outcomes in these places,” Clinton told the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“They are using Hezbollah… to communicate with counterparts… in (the Palestinian movement) Hamas who then in turn communicate with counterparts in Egypt,” the chief US diplomat said.

“We know that they are reaching out to the opposition in Bahrain. We know that the Iranians are very much involved in the opposition movements in Yemen,” she said.

“So either directly or through proxies, they are constantly trying to influence events. They have a very active diplomatic foreign policy outreach,” she added.

Say, Hillary, Barry – Isn’t it a bit late to try and shut this barn door you opened, the horse is long gone ….

AND FROM THE, “OH, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN” Department:

Egypt proposes competitive presidential elections

“Islam Lotfi, a leading youth activist and a member of Egypt’s most organized political movement, the Muslim Brotherhood…. says rewriting the Constitution meets one of the protesters biggest demands …”

THIS STATEMENT MARKS THE FIRST TIME THE WESTERN PRESS HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE OBVIOUS … STUDENT PROTESTERS IN EGYPT ARE MEMBERS OF THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD…

The article goes on to note:

“”Tahany el-Gibali, the deputy head of Egypt’s Constitutional Court (Chief Justice of Egypt’s Supreme Court), said the amendments (to Egypt’s Constitution) show a “serious shortcoming” in managing the transitional period by rushing toward elections without allowing new political players the time to form. “This denies the new forces on the ground the right to organize and form new parties to run in those elections,” el-Gibali said. “This will make the elections exclusive to the old powers, such as the Muslim Brotherhood…””

“Déjà vu” Carter and Iran … The Fundamentalist takeover of Egypt is a “fait accompli” … we will see how much more of the Middle East will be plunged into darkness…

Question: What is Egypt’s “largest active political party” today? Answer: The Muslim Brotherhood. The “Brotherhood” held 20% of the seats in Egypt’s Parliament (88 seats). The only political party in Egypt to hold more seats in Egypt’s Parliament was Mubarak’s Party and that party has been outlawed and dissolved….
