Oakland Cop Killer Honored At Community Rally

The original story as reported by ABC News:

The Killer. Lovelle Mixon, was a felon, who served a 5 year sentence for assault with a deadly weapon. At the time of the traffic stop Mixon was wanted on an arrest warrant for probation violations and was a suspect in multiple rape cases.

Mixon open fired on Officers following a traffic stop, killing both Officers.

As ABC News reports, below, Police received a “tip” on Mixon’s location and SWAT was called in. After entering the building in question, but prior to gaining access to Mixon’s younger sister’s apartment, where Mixon was hiding, Mixon opened fire with what has been dscribed as an “assault weapon”, killing two additional officers.

ABC News and  the San Francisco Chronicle report that “Lovelle Mixon may be tied to as many as six rapes — including that of a 12- year-old-girl. Investigators had previously said Mixon’s DNA was linked the day before the shootings to the rape of a 12-year-old girl last month in East Oakland. They say the girl was dragged off the street at gun point before being sexually assaulted. Now they say they’ve found a similar pattern in at least five others. http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/east_bay&id=6727430&rss=rss-kgo-article-6727430

KRON in Oakland reports that, “The Alameda County Assistant District Attorney is confirming to KRON 4 that just a day before a parolee killed four Oakland police officers, he was linked by DNA evidence to the rape of a 12-year-old girl. Assistant DA Tom Rogers tells KRON 4’s Christine Connolly that on February 5th the girl was taken off the street, had a bag placed over her head and was taken to an abandoned building in Oakland where numerous sexual acts were performed. Around 3 p.m. Friday, just a day before the shootings, the state DNA lab sent the Oakland PD information that DNA found on the girl was a match to gunman Lovelle Mixon. Police did not immediately issue an arrest warrant for the 26-year-old because officials say further tests needed to be done to make sure it was a solid match. Investigators say Mixon was the primary suspect in the rape and that they are looking to see if there are any connections to other rapes. State prison officials also note that Mixon was a suspect in a murder last year, but was never charged. Officials confirm to KRON 4 that Mixon executed one of the officers by standing over and shooting him in the head. They did not say which one was shot in this fashion.

Given these facts, how does one explain the “Community Organizers” Rally to support and Honor this felon, rapist and murder. What type of Community is this?

How about the young, 12 year old, black girl who was terrorized at gun point and raped?

Is there a voice in the Black Community that will speak out against this nonsense. A felon, a rapist, a cop killer. Being Black doesn’t make one right, being White doesn’t make one evil. There is no excuse for Racism. There is no excuse for Black Racism. It is time for rational members of this Black Community to speak out. One injustice does not cancel out another.

Youth Uprising? The Name says it all. The problem is obvious. To call a murdering rapist and convicted felon a “Hero” leaves little room for dialogue. Mixon a hero? If this is the type of individual the Community holds up as a hero – there is no dialogue to be had. I want no part of this Community and there is no place in my Community for these individuals. There is nothing to be negotiated here. There is no middle ground.

A simple test: What would these protestors be saying if the “Cop Killer” was White and the slain Officers Black. Its time for responsible leaders to speak out against this nonsense.

Update: Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown is speaking out against the protest at this time. 08:10 pm (03/27/09). Details to follow.

The Officers will be buried tommorow, Friday, March 27th. May God Bless and keep them and may God provide comfort to their families. May God touch the young girl(s) victimized by this felon and give her/them the peace necessary to heal, both physically and emotionally.

Auto Bailout Part 2 – Taxpayer Cost Increases To $710,000 Per GM Employee

The following Associated Press article appeared on YahooNews.com.

GM says 7,500 hourly workers decide to leave

DETROIT – About 7,500 General Motors Corp. workers have signed up to take buyout and early retirement incentives to leave the company, the automaker said Thursday.

Also, Chrysler LLC said Thursday it would extend its offers to entice blue-collar workers to leave the company. The old deadline was Friday.

At GM, about 12 percent of the company’s U.S. hourly work force of 62,400 decided to leave, most through early retirement offers.

GM offered $20,000 cash and a $25,000 voucher to buy a car to all of its hourly U.S. employees in an effort to further trim its blue-collar work force to match reduced sales. company. [$20k cash and a $25k car – $45K total cost – paid for with Taxpayer Dollars from Auto Bailout #1. How many of the nearly 10 Million Americans currently looking for new jobs received  a $45K payout? These same Americans will be asked to pay for this largesse with higher taxes when they find work? In Detroit, Union officials are quick to take credit for these “buyout” payments. As if the payments come from UAW cash and not from the American Taxpayers, who, to date, have  not consented to these payments ]

The deadline to decide was Tuesday, and many of the workers waited until the last minute to turn in their paperwork. The workers have seven days from the date they turn in the paperwork to rescind their decision, so many will have to decide by March 31.

For those that will leave, the effective date of their departure is April 1.

Both GM and Chrysler are living on a total of $17.4 billion in government loans and are seeking another $21.6 billion. [Living on and making these incredible “buyout offers” at Taxpayer expense] The Obama administration’s auto task force has indicated it may offer more aid, but further concessions are possible from both the companies stakeholders. [Auto Task Force or Auto Bailout Team? Neither GM nor Chrysler has presented a plan establishing that they will be “viable” by any date certain – a requirement previously imposed on these Automakers before any additional cash was to be handed out]

Both companies have to submit finalized restructuring plans to the federal government by March 31. [The plans that were due this past December! Anyone want to bet on additional cash and an additional extension of time from the Obama Administration].

The latest round of buyouts and early retirements at GM was the third for the company since 2006. From all three offers, more than 60,000 workers have decided to leave the company.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090326/ap_on_bi_ge/gm_buyouts

After the 7,500 take their “buyout” and leave, GM will have 54,900 remaining hourly workers. (62,400 – 7,500)

The cost of “Bailout” part 1 ($17.4 Billion) and “Bailout” part 2 ($21.6 Billion) is $39 Billion Dollars.

If  you divide the cost of the “Bailouts” by the number of hourly GM employes   ($39,000,000,000 / 54,900 =) you get the figure of $710,000 per employee. (Seven Hundred And Ten Thousand Dollars Per Employee).

The UAW reports that the average hourly salary for Auto Workers is $55 an hour. ($40/ hour in wages, overtime and vacation pay plus $15 per hour in “benefit” costs: total: $55.00) This number does not include the additional $15 to $18 per hour “legacy costs” paid by the “Detroit 3” . http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/10/business/economy/10leonhardt.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&hp

Using just the UAW calculation for hourly salary ($55 /hr) and a standard 40 hour work week over 52 weeks you can calculate an average yearly salary of  $114,400. (This is an under-estimate as the actual number of overtime hours have not been added into the equation).

What does this mean? “Bailouts”  part 1 & 2 will not only cost Taxpayers $710,000 per GM employee, but if you want another way to look at the numbers – it will cost Taxpayers the equivalent of 6.2 years of salary for evey GM employee in North America.

Don’t forget, they will be back for more money – no one is even pretending that this is enough cash to actually fix the problems, if , in fact, the problems can be fixed.

Tell Washington To Say No To More Bailouts: http://www.usa.gov/Contact.shtml

Do you find it surprising that a working couple employed by the “Detroit 3” can earn in excess of $250,000 a year?

Does that change your perspective of  who you consider to be “rich”?

Economy Continues To Slow – 6.3% Decrease Reported

Economy dips at slightly faster 6.3 percent pace

WASHINGTON – The economy shrank at a 6.3 percent pace at the end of 2008, the worst showing in a quarter-century, and probably isn’t doing much better now.

The Commerce Department on Thursday reported that the economy was sinking a bit faster than the 6.2 percent annualized drop for the October-December quarter estimated a month ago.

And the pain has persisted in the current quarter. New claims for unemployment benefits last week rose to a seasonally adjusted 652,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 644,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. The total number of people claiming benefits jumped to 5.56 million, higher than economists’ projections of 5.48 million, and a ninth straight record-high. [SEE: Unemployment claims rise to 40-year high; retail sales drop – http://www.lowellsun.com/business/ci_11904696 ]

The figures indicate the labor market remains weak even as some other economic indicators come in better than expected.

Consumers are cutting back under the weight of rising unemployment, falling home values and shrinking investment portfolios. Those factors have forced companies to slash production and jobs. All the negative forces are feeding on each other in a vicious cycle that has deepened the recession, now in its second year.

Economists were bracing for an even sharper 6.5 percent annualized decline in the government’s third and final estimate of gross domestic product for the fourth quarter.

Still, the results were dismal. The economy started off 2008 on feeble footing, picked up a bit of speed in the spring and then contracted at an annualized rate of 0.5 percent in the third quarter.

The faster downhill slide in the final quarter came as the financial crisis — the worst since the 1930s — intensified.

The main culprit behind the GDP downgrade was that businesses’ cut inventories more deeply than estimated a month ago. That shaved 0.11 percentage points off fourth-quarter GDP, rather than adding 0.16 percentage points in the previous report.

Builders also cut spending on commercial construction more deeply through previously thought.

Many analysts believe the economy will keep shrinking at least through the first six months of this year.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090326/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/economy

This last comment is the key. The recession may now be in it’s 16th month. History teaches us that the “recovery cycle” will begin in the next 3 to 6 months – without any Government intervention or the incredible spending presently scheduled by the Government. The inevitable increase in taxes, to pay for the spending, and the equally inevitable increase in interest rates associated with massive Government borrowing are, or should be, the real worry. Higher taxes and higher interest rates may act to stall or reverse the normal recovery “cycle”.

The earliest of  the Government’s “scheduled” spending will not  be infused into the economy for 36 to 48 months. Most of  the “scheduled” spending won’t even take place for 36 to 48 months.

Mexican Drug Cartel “Army” 100,000 Strong. Parity Reached With Mexico’s 130,000 Man Army

The Australian –

Online Newspaper of the Year

THE US Defence Department has estimated Mexico’s two most deadly drug cartels have a combined strength of more than 100,000 foot soldiers, an army that rivals Mexico’s armed forces and threatens to turn the country into a narco-state.

“It’s moving to crisis proportions,” a senior Defence official told The Washington Times. The official said the cartels’ “foot soldiers” were on a par with Mexico’s army of about 130,000.

The disclosure underlined the size of the challenge Mexico and the US faced as they struggled to contain what was increasingly looking like a civil war along theUS-Mexico border, the newspaper report said.

In the past year, about 7000 people have died — more than 1000 in January alone. The conflict has become increasingly brutal, with victims beheaded and bodies dissolved in vats of acid.

The paper noted that the death toll in Mexico in the first months of this year dwarfed that in Afghanistan, where about 200 fatalities, including 29 US troops, were reported in the first two months of 2009.

About 400 people, including 31 US military personnel, died in Iraq during the same period.

[There have been more fatalities in Mexico’s drug war during the last year than American fatalities in the 6 yr long Iraq War]

The Mexican Government yesterday poured 700 extra federal police into Ciudad Juarez, a city bordering Texas where local police have been overwhelmed by drug violence. The police joined 3200 federal troops, who arrived in the city over the weekend.

The biggest and most violent combatants in the Mexican drug wars are the Sinaloa cartel and its main rival, “Los Zetas” or the Gulf Cartel, whose territory runs along the Texas borderlands.

The Washington Times report said the two cartels appeared to be negotiating a truce or merger to defeat rivals and better withstand government pressure.

US officials told the paper the consequences of such a pact would be grave.

“I think if they merge or decide to co-operate in a greater way, Mexico could potentially have a national security crisis,” the US Defence Department official said. He said the two had amassed so many people and weapons that Mexican President Felipe Calderon was “fighting for his life” and “for the life of Mexico right now”.

Mexico was behind only Pakistan and Iran as a top US national security concern, ranking above Afghanistan and Iraq, the Defence official said.

Former CIA director Michael Hayden, who left the agency in January, put Mexico second to Iran as a top national security threat to the US.

His successor, Leon Panetta, said at his first news conference that the agency was “paying … a lot of attention to” Mexico.

The deployment to the border town of Ciudad Juarez has tripled the number of troops and federal police officers operating there as part of Mr Calderon’s offensive against drug traffickers.

The city is without a police chief. Roberto Orduna Cruz quit last week after several officers were slain and someone posted threats saying more would be killed unless he stepped down.

He is expected to be replaced by a figure from the military.

The move would represent a continuation of Mr Calderon’s strategy of relying on the army and federal police to counter drug-trafficking gangs in the country’s main smuggling corridors. He had deployed about 45,000 soldiers and 5000 police officers across the nation as part of the crackdown, launched two years ago.

Ciudad Juarez, which had about 1600 killings last year, has been on edge over the police chief’s resignation and threats that appeared against the mayor.

The boost in police numbers in Ciudad Juarez came as more than 800 federal and local police were assigned yesterday to improve security in and around Mexico City’s international airport after a series of armed robberies against travellers who exchanged money there.

Mexico City attorney-general Miguel Mancera said 460 additional city police officers had been assigned to patrol the areas surrounding the airport.

Federal police commissioner Rodrigo Esparza Federal said police had added 350 new agents to the airport since December.

Also yesterday, in the western state of Michoacan, attackers threw grenades at a city police chief’s house and a police station in the city of Uruapan, injuring four officers.

Uruapan is one of many cities struggling with increasing drug violence. There were two other grenade attacks against police stations there in February.

Mexican drug cartels are believed to operate in 230 US cities, according to a recent Justice Department report. http://content.usatoday.net/dist/custom/gci/InsidePage.aspx?cId=freep&sParam=34464178.story

MS-13 gang growing extremely dangerous, FBI says

In early November, the FBI and Houston police learned that six suspected members of Mara Salvatrucha [Mara = Gang, Salvatrucha = Guerrilla Fighter], a violent Central American gang known as MS-13, were raiding a house on Liberty Street where a rival gang had stashed drugs.
MS-13 — the focus of a nationwide crackdown by FBI and federal immigration agents — has become known in recent years for home invasion robberies, drug dealing and machete attacks on its enemies. But what happened in Houston on Nov. 2, FBI and Houston police officials say, has heightened concerns that MS-13 could be far more dangerous than thought. [ICE – Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been ordered to step down from these activities by the Obama Administration – The ICE raids under the code name, “Operation Community Shield” have been brought to an end]
Bob Clifford, who directs the FBI unit created last year to combat MS-13, says the battle symbolized MS-13’s development from a smattering of loosely organized cells across the nation to an increasingly efficient and dangerous organization that has become a significant threat to public safety.

Also See: http://www.samuellogan.com/publications/MS-13-Organization-and-US-Response.pdf

“Our worst suspicions about MS-13 have been confirmed” by the Houston shooting and other recent gang-related incidents, Clifford says.

From low-income neighborhoods in Los Angeles, MS-13 has spread throughout the USA, largely following the migration patterns of immigrants from El Salvador and other Central American nations. With a membership that the FBI estimates could be as high as 10,000, MS-13 is most active in Los Angeles, the Mid-Atlantic, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Clifford says the group also has formed commerce routes across the nation for drug-trafficking operations.

Raids of suspected MS-13 safe houses in Central America, Mexico and the USA by federal and international law enforcement officials resulted in more than 600 arrests and the discovery of gang “constitutions,” the FBI said.

Report: MS-13 gang hired to murder Border Patrol –

Mexican alien smugglers plan to pay violent gang members and smuggle them into the United States to murder Border Patrol agents, according to a confidential Department of Homeland Security memo obtained by the Daily Bulletin. The Officer Safety Alert, dated Dec. 21, warns agents that the smugglers intend to bring members of the international Mara Salvatrucha street gang also known as MS-13 into the country for the deadly mission.“Unidentified Mexican alien smugglers are angry about the increased security along the U.S./Mexico border and have agreed that the best way to deal with U.S. Border Patrol agents is to hire a group of contract killers,” the alert states.
